Lakewood-West Colfax Small Business Fund Helps Dozens of Local Businesses

Thanks to the efforts of the West Colfax-based organization--WCCA, 40 West Arts, and the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District--along with the generous donors the Lakewood-West Colfax Small Business Fund was able to award support grants to dozens of local businesses in an effort to help provide immediate relief during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Our West Colfax-based organizations fielded more than 100 inquiries about the local fund. To accommodate the overwhelming number of requests, we adjusted disbursement amounts to allow help to reach all qualified applicants. A total of $12,500 in grants were awarded. The grant stipends could be used to meet monthly business expenses or help put food on the table for the recipient or employees.

100% of the support funds have been approved for distribution and will arrive in the mail to grantees in the next 2-3 days. If additional funds become available, we will re-open the fund for additional applications. Lakewood’s West Colfax corridor has a 150+ year history that stretches back to the mid-1800s. As the corridor evolved from rutted dirt paths to an integral part of the first coast-to-coast highway, its story spans apple orchards, dairy farms, the Jewish Consumptive Relief Society, motor inns, and the Americana of the 1950s automotive culture. While enduring economic struggle at the end of the 20th century, West Colfax has rallied in recent years with local coffee shops, restaurants, active shopping, and 40 West Arts District.

COVID-19 severely threatens the resurgence of Lakewood’s West Colfax corridor and its businesses. On Friday, March 27th the fund was opened to small businesses to apply for short-term help to creative enterprises and small businesses.

We’re sincerely thankful to our donors, 100% of every donation goes directly to support local businesses and keep our corridor vibrant.
