$800,000 proposed in city budget for Ward 1 and Ward 2 Streetscape and Public Art Improvements

We’re excited to share that Lakewood City Council has proposed funding for Streetscape and Public Art Improvements along the West Colfax corridor in Council Wards 1 and 2.  This budget item is pending City Council approval on October 25 for funds to be spent starting in 2022. The total budget is $800,000 and it will be shared equally between the two wards. The budget item  does not identify specific projects; however, based on previously identified community needs, funds in Ward 2 will be utilized to make improvements along Lakewood’s 40 West ArtLine amenity that serves the entire West Colfax corridor and the greater community.

While this is not a huge number—the city can surely put the money to good use in our community! The city will be looking for ways to add beauty and art in places that will readily accommodate it.  After the budget is approved, the city will collaborate with all of us through a series of outreach steps  to identify projects and potential sites for beautification. West Colfax ambassadors and neighbors along the corridor will have the opportunity to give input and share project ideas as part of the process. In order to identify projects, the first step will be  a short survey, drawing from the  Vision 2040 discussions from earlier this year, and then building on that with additional gatherings (zoom or in person) in the new year.
More information will be shared during upcoming WCCA meetings (on Zoom) and future newsletters. All West Colfax Ambassadors and neighborhood association leaders will be notified in advance with an invitation to participate. Stay tuned for more updates.
